Ghosting has become quite common these days in the hiring/recruitment process.
It is unfortunate that its affecting the whole hiring process.
This is happening both from candidate and employer side.
Candidates become unreachable after offer or after interview . Employers go on silent mode after intial round of discussion or early stage of interview or even after offer discussion.
Most of the times, the candidates don’t get a proper treatment during the application process, gets multiple rejection even having relevant skills or rejection at the final stage of offer due to various reasons. The past poor experience often create disengament for the candidates and that mindset gets reflected while they apply for next job.
At employers end, recruiters,HRs are overloaded, some time they lack structured system to follow up and keep a smooth track of the applicant’s candidature. Of course other aspects like positions going on hold or filled internally force the employer to drop the candidates.
The below steps can be taken to reduce ghosting :
Employers must do prompt follow up
They should keep in touch with candidates.
Must keep the human touch intact, avoid automation in all stages.
Respect the candidate’s time.
Streamline the whole process,avoid multiple assessement on similar topics.
Let candidates be comfortable and share his opinion on the given problem statment.
Enocurage the candiadtes who are fast learner and adapatable to new technologies.
Timely update about the feedback of interview, reason of rejection .
Must value immediate joiners on top priority and if selected offer should be done on fast track.
To do for Recruiters:
Recruiters must explore true intent of the candidate while sourcing.
Must create a good bond with the candidate.
Must explain and share the insight about the hiring company.
Must reduce time to hire.
Try to maintain transparency during the process.
To do for Candidates:
Candidates also have responsilities to follow few things while they apply for any job.
Most of the applicants are active and being contacted because they are looking for a job.
Candidate must be clear on their role and choose to apply if they are fully confident that the job opportunity is the right one.
They should be active to respond on time for the interviews/assesment /documentation .
Must inform the the client HR /Recruiters if at any point of time they want to back out showing a valid reason in a professional way.
Hiring is a co-relation and every party must work together so that the hiring process will be smooth .
